Is it terrible of me to be covering a Lomo event with digital photographs?

Well, considering I still have undeveloped film from 2003, I think practicality overrules anything else.

Lomography knows how to throw a party, and both analog and digital parties were there to represent and document the Los Angeles store opening, complete with tamales, tacos, and a mariachi band.

congrats on getting published! how exciting for you. i’m coming down to LA at the end of march, will make sure to stop by this store. and oh, i also wanted to ask your opinion, i’ve been thinking about getting a lomo camera or the fuji mini instax. obviously i can’t afford both, which one would you recommend? lately i’ve been leaning towards the instax just because i miss my polaroid camera so much but the film is too expensive…

I would pick the Fuji Instax – while I’m very much an LC-A devotee, I think if you are anything less than that, it would not be worth it to purchase as it is expensive, and overpriced, IMO, for a “toy” camera. Even I hardly use it because the film and developing takes just too much time and money. I haven’t used the Instax though, but I really want to get one too, so let me know how you like it if you go with that!

The LC-A DID just release a new product that turns it into a Polaroid type camera with the Instax film, so you basically get both products out of the LC-A. But still really expensive.

I found your blog through I am Style-ish’ blogroll. I love your pictures! I’m also in LA and you’re inspiring me to go out there and see more things. I usually tend to stick to the same areas.

Hi, thank you so much! I usually find things to do around LA on Twitter and other blogs. And I’m lucky to live in downtown where so many things are happening right now. Maybe I should start posting about future events that I find so that others can find them?

thanks for the input, Ro! i was leaning towards the Instax and now that you mentioned the cost of film + printing, i’ve definitely made up my mind. i’m on shopping hiatus for Lent but i think it will be a good Easter gift for myself. plus they’re on sale on amazon right now, that’s enough to make me pull the trigger :)

You’re so welcome! Please post pictures as soon as you get the camera! Though with a sale, I may have to save up and get one myself.
