Neighborhood casual, creative dishes – just some of the terms that Garry Muir, one of Corkbar‘s four owners, used to describe the South Park wine bar as we were eating dinner there last Wednesday. And rightly so, as they won Best Wine Bar in the annual Best Of Downtown. At the very least, they are my favorite DTLA wine bar.

I have yet to attend one of their Test Kitchen Tuesdays, where a new dish is served up for $2 each, after chefs concoct a dish from their finds at the Farmers Market the day before. Downtown has been a very fickle market for restaurants, but what’s seemed to work is strong community involvement. Test Kitchen has proven successful with well-received dishes that have made it to the menu, like the raviolo and crab cakes that we tried. And yes, they were very good.

I’m a fan of the bar’s clean and modern look that still manages to create a warm atmosphere, and interesting details like the cork stoppers stuck in the walls.
